April – Ruthanne Hamrick told us about her visit to Copper Canyon in Mexico and 50-mile run with the Tarahumara.
May – Prof. Mousumi Roy of UNM gave a presentation about the Rio Grande Rift.
June – John Solomon talked to us about Wilderness Survival.
July – Dr. Tom Williamson of the NMMNH presented a program on Ice Age Vertebrates in the Albuquerque area.
August – Lance Davisson, the NM Urban Forester, talked to us about his Big Tree program.
September – Elke Duerr spoke about the Mexican Grey Wolf Recovery Program in our state.
October – Bill Pentler of Albuquerque Open Space talked to us about the mammals of the Sandias and had lots of pelts and skulls to show.
November – Bob Julyan gave us one of his continuing descriptions of the European treks he and his family take each year. This one covered their 10 days in southwest France.
2011
January – Ruthanne Hamrick took us on her ultra-marathon run of the Leadville 100. This gut-wrenching run took her 21 hours.
February – Cancelled due to snow.
March – L. Greer Price, editor of the Geology of Northern New Mexico, gave us some fascinating information about some of the spectacular sites in our state.
April – Ray Berg talked about his wonderful two-week trek in the Alps.
May – Gerry Grayson and Bob Julyan took us on their bike ride across a large part of Missouri.
June – Chris Modelski, N.M. Natural History Center, showed us some wonderful wildlife photos taken at ponds in the Sandias.
July – Dave Weaver described their fascinating trip around the perimeter of Iceland.
August – David Ryan gave us some very helpful information about the kind of things to look for in the wild that indicate early Native American sites.
September – Pearl Burns and Larry Littlefield showed us slides and told us about their beautiful and informative new book Wildflowers of the Sandia and Manzano Mountains.
October – Mike Butterfield talked to us about his beautiful New Mexico mountain book and showed some great photos.
November – We heard about the fires of 2011 from Karen Takai with accompanying close up shots of the fires and firefighters.
2012
March – Robert Torrez, State Historian, gave a program about the military campaigns in the 18th and 19th centuries mainly against the Comanches.
April – Canceled due to weather.
May – We traveled to Antarctica with Pauline Ho to see and hear about her trip.
June – Bill Dunmire’s recent book New Mexico’s Living Landscapes was the subject of his presentation.
July – Ruthanne Hamrick shared her experiences in Kenya, including her climb of Mt. Kenya and running the Nairobi marathon.
August – The geologic quirks of the Sandia Mountain was the subject of Dirk Van Hart’s program.
September – Peter Fawcett, UNM Prof. of Earth Sciences, shared the results of his work over many years in the Valle Grande that revealed 200,000 years of temperatures in N.M.
October – Linda McDowell told us about her visit to Kyrgyzstan last summer, where she helped build housing for needy people.
November – No program due to election day.
2013
March – Pauline Ho talked about her trip to Madagascar and the unusual wildlife they saw.
April – Sandra Arazi-Coambs gave a program about the archaeology of the Sandias.
May – Mike Butterfield told us about his forthcoming book on the High Mountains of N.M.
June – Joan Mathien presented a program about Chaco and the origins of the turquoise found there.
July – Bob Julyan recounted the summer hike that he and his wife made on the Dale’s Way Trail in England.
August – David Ryan told us about his new book and how to become more aware of seeing things as we hike.
September – Pauline Ho’s program was about her visit with her husband, Richard, to Morocco and their hiking in the High Atlas Mountains.
